Contracture in the Foot
نویسنده
چکیده
A woman of twenty-three had noticed for two years a gradually enlarging nodule in the medial part of the sole of the left foot. It had been intermittently tender on prolonged standing. There was no history of injury. The patient’s grandmother had two nodules in the hand. On examination there was a nodule in the plantar fascia one and three-quarter inches long and a quarter of an inch wide (Fig. 1).

Background and Objective: Burn is one of the morbidity factors in developing countries and majority of burns in the foot fingers and dorsum of foot is due to hot liquids and falling in traditional baking ovens in the north-west of Iran. Children are specifically high–degree- burn victims resulting in severe contracture and deformity. On the other hand, excavation of chronic scar and skin graft ...
متن کاملGastrocnemius recession to treat isolated foot pain.
BACKGROUND Gastrocnemius recession is performed to correct an isolated gastrocnemius equinus contracture of the ankle that may accompany foot and ankle pathology in the adult. It has been proposed that this equinus deformity leads to excessive strain throughout the foot, thus causing pain. This can manifest itself in the form of plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia, posterior tibial tendon insuffic...
متن کاملEffects of extrinsic foot musculature on hindfoot kinematics during stance phase: Implications for flatfoot pathology
Background Flatfoot deformity is a common condition, characterized by a collapse of the medial foot arch. Specific muscle dysfunctions relate to kinematic changes of the hind foot (plantarflexion, abduction and valgus) inducing the onset of flatfoot deformity. However, to determine a causal relation between individual muscle action, foot bone motion and flatfoot, in vitro experiments are needed...
متن کاملInfluence of gastrocnemius-soleus muscle force on sub-MTH load distribution
Background The gastrocnemius-soleus (G-S) muscle complex, the most dominant extrinsic plantar flexor, plays an important role in the normal weight-bearing function of the foot. The stability and stance-phase placement of the foot can be adversely affected when muscular loads/support are abnormal (e.g. equinus contracture) [1]. This study aims to formulate a three-dimensional musculoskeletal fin...
متن کاملReconstruction of Postburn Contracture of the Forefoot Using the Anterolateral Thigh Flap
BACKGROUND Severe forefoot deformities, particularly those involving the dorsum of the foot, cause inconvenience in daily activities of living including moderate pain on the dorsal aspect of the contracted foot while walking and difficulty in wearing nonsupportive shoes due to toe contractures. This paper presents clinical results of reconstruction of severe forefoot deformity using the anterol...
